Gangnam Style

When I last checked, the official video in YouTube of the song Gangnam Style had been viewed more than 1 billion 800 million times. In the video the singer positions his hands like he is holding the reins of a horse, opens his legs a little and jumps up and down. What made this dance and its song so popular? I believe that sociologists, psychologists and similar experts will look into this issue for years. What interests me is the simplicity of it.

Some people have a talent for dancing. You show them a figure once and they can easily repeat it. The body parts of some others would not want to go into any relationship with the music. ☺ Their bodies would have difficulty going from one position into another. However, if one can simplify a dance just like in Gangnam, where one can jump up and down without changing the form of the body, one can make a dancer out of almost anybody, be it the kid who has just learned to walk or our over 100 years old grandfather.

When you are establishing a new business one of the most important points is being able to explain what you do in a simple way. Many of the people, who you consider to be your customers, could have brains that can only ‘jump up and down in the same place’ about the issues related to your products and services. If you cannot make those issues easily understandable you might be confining yourself to a few ‘talented dancers’.

If you are curious about the source of inspiration of Gangnam, you might find the answer by clicking here.
