fac totum

fac totum in Latin means ‘do everything!’ In the old days It was a name given to someone who carried out more than one task in an organisation, at home or in the work place.

In some sectors, also by utilising technological facilities, it is easier to make it seem as if one is managing more than one task at a time. For example, you can record the musical instruments of a huge orchestra one by one and then you can play all of them simultaneously. ThePianoGuys is one of the music groups that has produced some good examples of such a process. Of course, to record the instruments of the orchestra you should be allowed sufficient time. If you ask somebody to play all of the instruments live and simultaneously, then it is not possible to achieve this task. Just like you cannot tell a decathlete to race simultaneously in 10 different events.

If you are striving to be an entrepreneur, then the situation is somewhat different. You will be asked to play many instruments simultaneously or you will be expected to throw the discus while you are running the 100 meters. In reality, you will not be asked or expected to do any such thing but you will start to perceive the world in this way. 🙂

To prevent such faulty perceptions it is necessary to determine the optimum requirement for human resources by considering a typical working day together with its work processes. Otherwise you might have many upset clients waiting for your boat at the harbour.
